CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION UPDATES

1st Annual Buckley Pen Pals Program Set to Begin February 2023!

We are delighted to report that over 50 Buckley alumni have signed up to be pen pals! Thank you, Alumni, for this extraordinary turn out.

Starting in February 2023, our current 5th graders will begin corresponding with Buckley alumni spanning eight decades from the 1950s to the 2020s, living in 14 different states (plus one country other than the US!), and representing a great showing by both the Blue Team (57%) and Red Team (43%)!

This is the first year of Buckley Pen Pals, an idea brought to the Centennial Celebration team by faculty member Marissa Chille (English 5/6). As we take this time to celebrate Buckley's past and present, we are also excited to look to the future and start new traditions like this!

SNEAK PEEK

Holidays at Buckley are made brighter by our amazing faculty, like Mr. Roby Young, and their unique contributions to the school!

Roby, a gifted teacher and artist, has created many works of art that bring joy and beauty to the school, including this hand-carved menorah that has stood proudly in Buckley's front hall every Hanukkah since 1983.

Roby's menorah is also one of the 100 significant artifacts that will be on display at Buckley from May 19-21, 2023 during the Centennial Reunion & Gala Weekend!

What are your favorite memories from the holiday season at Buckley?

CURRENT EVENTS

Buckley's Annual Holiday Celebrations

On Friday, December 9, Buckley celebrated another beautiful and timeless Christmas Pageant! Congratulations to all the students who performed, and our sincere appreciation goes out to our Head of Lower School, Mrs. Elizabeth Lyons, for her leadership and direction of the amazing team that put together such a beautiful performance.

On Friday, December 16, the Buckley community gathered in the auditorium to enjoy The Nutcracker, one of Buckley's annual traditions. The show was performed by our first grade and eighth grade students, narrated by Dr. Toler, and directed by the one and only Mrs. Jennifer Demopoulos.

We also celebrated Hanukkah, and Mrs. Susan Goldman and Sydney Fisher '27 lit the Menorah that was carved by our very own Mr. Roby Young, and we listened to two songs beautifully performed by our second and third grade choruses.

Finally, our Upper School chorus wrapped things up with two more tunes, and a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus!

Our sincere appreciation goes out to everyone - faculty, staff, students, and parent volunteers - who helped bring this tradition to life once more this year, and a very special Thank You to Mrs. D for her leadership of this wonderful production.

FROM THE ARCHIVE

Home for the Holidays: December 1958

Yes, that's a house on a truck! And not just any house. It's the home that Buckley's Heads of School and their families have lived in since 1959. The history of this extraordinary home goes back much further, and how it came to be at Buckley was not by chance or accident. It was a gift...delivered just in time for the holidays!
